Overview

Business in the 21st century isn't just about making decisions. Its about executing better, faster, and making proactive decisions based on actionable information. It is about a vision and a strategy for dealing with today's challenges driven by an integrated view of the world.

And that's what OIG is all about.

OIG (OSSIM Innovation Group) is a technical consulting firm that specializes in new age techniques and technologies for applied geospatial solutions. From conceptualization through the design phase and from creation to implementation, OIG leverages it's resources, experience and expertise to harness the unbridled power of geographic and spatial information.

My Role

One of the most important concerns of business is identity and such was the case for OIG. The company was looking to create a more professional corporate appearance and came to me for help. They wanted a cleaner and more effective brand ID which would help them to stand out in the spatial technologies market.

Working with the executive team, I assisted in the development of more polished marketing collateral. This included the design of their new logo, creation of matching print material, web properties and other cohesive assets.

Update: OIG was recently acquired by SANZ, Inc.

GUI Design

GUI!

A graphical user interface (or GUI, pronounced "gooey") is a method of interacting with a computer (or computer program) through a metaphor of direct manipulation of visual elements.

The GUI consists of graphical widgets which include, but are not limited to: windows, menus, buttons, icons, and other "tools" which make interaction easier for the end user. Effective interaction is facilitated by a pointing device such as a mouse, but could also involve the use of a keyboard, touch-screen, joystick, or similar control device.

EarthWhere™ 4.0

EarthWhere™ 4.0

EarthWhere® is a web-based, spatial data management and provisioning application. It represents a paradigm shift in the ability to acquire, process and provision satellite imagery and other "mission-critical" spatial assets. EarthWhere™ provides unparalleled access to datasets that were often inaccessible due to the technical constraints imposed by hardware, software and by the tremendous size and scope of geographic, spatial data.

EarthWhere™ 2.0

EarthWhere™ 2.0

The first public release of EarthWhere™—a web-based, spatial data management and provisioning application. This application has since been enhanced to add new features and functionality.

Patent Drawings

Intellectual Property

The items shown in this section are inventions/product ideas.

My responsibility on each project was to develop virtual models of the invention(s), create photographic renderings for presentation as well as line drawings for submission with a patent application. The [vector-based] 3D renderings were imported into Adobe Illustrator® and marked up with lead lines and numbering. Each number corresponds to a description of the featured element shown in the patent application.

Logo Design

Logos!

A logotype, commonly known as a logo, is a graphic design which [visually] represents a product, trademark or brand.

A logo typically contains multiple "design elements" such as text, stylized images and iconography which are arranged together in a creative formation. The shape, color, and placement of these elements are intended to be unique so that the logo stands out from the competition. This design is also meant to be legible so the brand is easily identifiable at a glance.

Traditional Media

Traditional Media

The term "Traditional Media" is used here to describe artwork that was created using traditional tools. This means that the work was created "by hand" in pencil, pastel, gouache, ink, etc. on media such as paper, canvas or board. They have not been digitally retouched or manipulated!

A computer and image scanner were used to capture slide exposures of the original artwork. Photoshop® was used to generate compressed samples for display at this site.

Vitruvius Redux

Vitruvius Redux

For more than five centuries, Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man has been used as a reference tool for understanding the proportions of the human figure. My rendition of Vitruvius began as a study of Leonardo's famous drawing. However, it soon evolved to include some of my own ideas. My version built on the original but became an image of a drawing with pencils sitting on top of it as if the artist had set them down to rest. The strategic placement of the pencils ensured that Vitruvius would be forever immortalized with his dignity intact. The usual scowl on his face was replaced by the slight grin which is testament to his elation. This piece was drawn in ink on illustration board. The board was prepared with gouache to give the design a weathered parchment look and feel. (Size: 15"x20")

The Condottiere Launch icon

The Condottiere

Thousands of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci have survived throughout the ages. However, very few of his famous drawings are considered finished pieces. His Portrait of a Warrior, or (more appropriately) The Condottiere, is one such example. Leonardo's original drawing was done in silver-point on parchment—a style which requires an extremely delicate touch. My study of this piece was achieved using a soft, colored pencil on painted illustration board. (Size: 15"x20")
