What is a hot rod?
The definition may vary from person to person. However, the most common (and generic) of which is: a car that has been customized for performance, and/or appearance.
The term "hot rod" became popular in 1950's—originally meaning an older car which had been modified by reducing weight (modifying the body by removing roof, hood, bumpers, windshield and/or fenders), lowering it, modifying, tuning, or replacing the engine to give more power, as well as changing the wheels and tires to improve traction and handling. Such modifications were considered to improve the visual appeal but often the car was given a distinctive paint job as well.
The term may have originated from "hot roadster" which was used in the 1950s and 1960s as a derogatory term for any car that did not fit into the mainstream definition of "automobile." Other sources indicate that the term was derived from replacement of connecting rods in engines to allow higher RPMs to be reached without engine failure.

This project was inspired from an earlier group of test shots that I pieced together in December of 2006. My "new and improved" panoramic image of the Flatirons (and the City of Boulder) was created from approximately twenty photographs which were taken from the Scenic Overlook in January of 2007.
